Accessibility

Everyone is welcome to visit the National Library. On this page we have collected information related to making our environment accessible to all our visitors.

  • Connecting Humlegårdsgatan with the entrance to the National Library is a 60 metre long gravel path. There are two parking places dedicated to visitors with a parking permit for handicapped, within ten metres of the main entrance.

To the right of the stairs to the main entrance there is a door on ground level for visitors unable to climb stairs. The door is equipped with a door opener. Immediately inside there is a lift to the National Library’s main entrance hall. There is a disabled lift measuring 1.1 x 1.5 metres.

  • All reception and information desks are height-adjustable. Hearing induction loops of the model Univox DLS-70 are fitted at the reception desk, at the information and loans desk, and in the auditorium.

There is a lift to floor 1, 2, and 3 in the new wing in the entrance level. The lift measures 1.9 x 1.08 metres.

The two main Reading Rooms have reference works which can only be reached by narrow stairs. There is personnel ready to assist in retrieving any books needed. In order to ensure that you get the best possible service, please contact us ahead of your visit regarding specific requirements.

  • Magnifying glasses with or without lighting can be borrowed in the information and loans desk, in the Reading Room for newspapers, and in the Special Collection Reading Room.

If you have difficulties with reading printed text and as a consequence cannot partake of a particular work, which can only be accessed at the National Library, you have the right to borrow an adjusted copy of the work. The Library can assist with scanning text to computer files in a format enabling speech synthesis.

You can order the conversion of files at the information and loans desk.

  • All green plants in the Library are certified by the Asthma & Allergy Association. All cleaning products used at the Library are perfume-free.

The Library personnel are advised not to use perfume and other strong smelling products during working hours.

Assistance dogs are welcome in the building, other animals are not permitted.
