Manuscripta is a catalogue of older manuscripts in Swedish libraries. Here you can browse through many of the National library's medieval manuscripts.

Manuscripta contains older bound manuscripts from the National library and other cultural heritage institutions. The manuscripts date from the Middle Ages to the 18th century. The information in the service is in English.

How to search

In the service's search function, you can choose between searching by manuscript title and author. Manuscripta also has a browse function. You can browse through a list and sort the content by, for example, year of creation, language or library.

The digitised manuscripts displayed in the service are copyright free. Therefore, you can download them and use them as you wish.

Information on layout and owners

In addition to the manuscripts in their entirety, the catalogue also contains detailed descriptions of the works. This includes information on, for example, graphic design, illustrations, bindings and the previous known owners (provenance) of the manuscripts.
