A gift wrapped with strings

Book cover by Christo

Before the artist Javacheff Christo, Christo Vladimirov Javacheff (1935–2020) wrapped parliament buildings and bridges, he wrapped an edition of 100 books in fabric and string in 1973. The copy at the National Library (KB) was acquired at Beiers Moderna's autumn auction in 1988.This is a book object—an item that, in one way or another, associates with and references the concept of a book but is not meant to be read. Instead, it stands as an aesthetic object in its own right.

Donations

Donations play an important role in building the National Library’s collections. Thanks to these contributions, we can continue to be a rich and independent source for research.

Some donations fill the gaps left by material that we have not received through legal deposit. But unpublished cultural heritage, such as personal archives, is also a valuable source for research. This includes materials not covered by legal deposit legislation, such as digital games.

Help us fill in the gaps

Would you like to help preserve Sweden's cultural heritage? Perhaps you have something that we are missing. There are hidden gems we don’t even know we’re missing — and we need your help to discover them.

We are grateful for all donations that complement and enrich our collections!

During the autumn of 2025, our ability to accept donations in certain collections will be limited. However, if you wish to make a donation, please fill out the form and we will get back to you with more information.

How to donate

Please note that we are unable to accept unsolicited donations. However, you are welcome to contact us with a proposal. Before proceeding to the donation form, please read below to see what types of material we gladly accept.
